HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE U. S. MARINE CORPS !
The U. S. Marine Corps was established in 1775.
On November 10, 2016 the Corps will celebrate its 241st anniversary.
The U. S. Marine Corps standard is a gold and gray emblem. The official colors were established in 1925.
The newly established colors and flag design were adopted as early as 1925.
The Marine Corps emblem approved in 1868 had the crested bald eagle found round the world, a globe to signify service all over the world and a fouled anchor depicting battle on land, in the air and on the sea. The anchor and the eagle can be traced back to the early Continental Marines. It included a small ribbon in the eagle's beak reading, "Semper Fidelis", the Marine Corps motto. The globe is attributed to a symbol of the British Royal Marines.
In 1954 Dwight D. Eisenhower approved the design for the seal of the U. S. Marine Corps. The American Bald Eagle was included at this time to replace the crested bald eagle. In 1955 this emblem became the official seal of the U. S. Marine Corps and is correctly displayed on the flag of the Marine Corps.
