PENNSYLVANIA ENTERED THE UNION ON DECEMBER 12, 1787 AS THE 2ND STATE. THE STATE FLAG WAS ADOPTED IN 1907.
THE SHIELD OF THE STATE ARMS IS SUPPORTED BY TWO HORSES ON THE DARK BLUE FIELD. IN THE FOREGROUND OF THE SHIELD ARE A PLOUGH WITH SJEAVES PF WJEAT AND BEHIND IT IS A SAILING SHIP. ON THE TOP OF THE SHILLD AN EAGLE IS PERCHED. ON THE LEFT IS A STALK OF CORN AND ON THE RIGHT IS AN OLIVE BRANCH REPRESENTING FERTILITY AND THE WILL FOR PEACE RESPECTIVELY.
