MINNESOTA STATE FLAG FACTS
Minnesota was the 32nd state to enter the Union on May 1, 1858. The state flag was introduced in 1893 and revised in 1957.
The State Seal with the motto, " L'etoile du Nord" meaning "Star of the North" is centered on a Blue field. The larger gold star incorporated in the seal was introduced when Minnesota was the northermost state in the Union. There are 19 stars in the seal's circular white frame to indicate that Minnesota was the 19th state. A plowman, a tree stump and an Ameridian represent agriculture, lumbering and Minnesota's heritage. The version of the seal used is decorated with the dates 1819, 1858 and 1893 commemorating the years of Minnesota's first settlement, statehood and initial adoption of the state flag.
