THIRTEEN STAR FLAG FACTS

Congress met in June of 1777 to resolve several issues regarding the Continental Navy,  Immediately after passing these resolutions, Congress passed another resolution for the creation of a flag of the thirteen United States.  It read "that the flag of the thirteen united States be 13 stripes alternate red and white, that the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field representing a new constellation."  No special committee was appointed and there is no record of any discussion either in the Congress or in contemporary letters.  Congress adopted a new United States flag.  This took place on June 14, 1777 and today we celebrate that day as Flag Day.
