GRAND UNION FLAG FACTS
The Grand Union flag was the first true flag of the United States. it was authorized by the 2nd Continental Congress in 1775 and was the official flag when the Colonies declared independence on July 4th 1776. It remained for the first year of the Revolutionary War.
The flag combines the British King's Colors and the thirteen stripes that signify the unity of the thirteen colonies. it was meant as a compromise for those who wanted to repair relations with Britain and the Colonialists who wanted independence.
