THIRD CONFEDERATE FLAG FACTS
The second National Confederate flag was a White sqare with a Red Canton in upper left corner. The Blue cross of St Andrew with White stars was centered in it. Also known as the "Stainless Banner". It was twice mistaken for a plain white flag because of its weight and the fact that it hung down in a way that the canton was not easily seen.
On March 4, 1865 a new flag, the Third Confederate, was adopted. A vertical Red bar was added on the fly end and it became the final and National flag of the Confederacy used to this day.
The Southern people always believed that their cause of limited government and the rights of the states were worth fighting for; that the United States government was becoming too big and powerful; that their principles were inherited from the founding fathers and were worth declaring independence from the United States.
