ALABAMA STATE FLAG FACTS
Alabama was the 22nd state to enter the Union on December 14, 1819. The state flag was adopted in 1895.
The flag was designed with a diagonal crimson cross of St. Andrew on a square white field. The cross appears to be deliberately reminiscent of the Confederate States' Battle Flag. According to the Legistative Act 383 in 1895 the cross was to be diagonal ( from side to side ) on the field and the bars were not to be less than six inches wide. The Act did not specify a square or rectangular field.
